1.Department ofEnglish
I. General introduction
We have enrolled students since 1993 and undergraduates 2000. We have 25 full-time teaching staffs, among whom 6 are professors, 9 associate professors, 10 lecturers and 5 with PhD degree. All the professors and PhDs teach undergraduate courses. At present, the number of students who major in English is about 450, and they are all equipped with solid professional knowledge and strong practical skills.
We also have cross-border e-commerce course, and it can be learned by students after their completion of the fundamental stage. We have established a long-term fixed “double-cross” (cross-border and cross-university enterprise) joint training mechanism with foreign universities and enterprises, domestic foreign-related enterprises and other departments. Students have the opportunity to participate in the "double cross" project to study and practice (with salary) both at home and abroad for six months to one year.
We have well-facilitated teaching and research centers and labs, such as language lab, multi-functional recording room, self-learning platform. More than 10 internship bases both here and abroad have been established. Graduates have a bright job prospects, mainly engaged in cross-border e-commerce, management, translation, tourism, foreign affairs and other works related to this major.
II.Training target
We aim at cultivating high-quality cross-border e-commerce talents with great character, solid English language foundation, necessary knowledge of English language and literature, strong abilities of translating and intercultural business communication. And they are also in line with the needs of national economic construction and social development.
III.Major characteristics
We build up the students’ knowledge structure based on “English major foundation + characteristic direction”, and train high-quality cross-border e-commerce talents with strong capabilities of translating and cross-cultural business communication mainly through the joint training of “double cross” (cross-border and cross-university enterprise). We attach great importance to the cultivation of students’ basic language skills and cross-cultural awareness, and to foster the skills of business translation and impart the business knowledge. Students can enhance their cross-cultural awareness, broaden international vision and improve their comprehensive application ability of English through cross-border joint training.

2.Department of Chinese International Education
I. General introduction
This department started to recruit undergraduates since 2009. At present, there are about 110 students currently studying in GUET; more than 60 students have been sent to Thailand, Laos and the Philippines as Chinese volunteer for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This major owns a team of experienced teachers with reasonable structure; all the teachers had experienced in overseas Chinese language teaching. Now the major has established two overseas internship sites in Thailand and Vietnam, and one domestic internship base. All students are required to do the intership abroad during their undergraduate study. Our college is equipped with language lab, multi-functional recording room, simultaneous interpretation lab and self-learning platform, etc. After graduation, students will mainly pursue the career of teaching Chinese as foreign language, business, management, tourism and other works related to the major.
II.Training target
We aim at equipping our students with solid basic knowledge of Chinese, high level of humanistic quality, and professional knowledge and capability in Chinese literature, Chinese culture, and cross-cultural communication and so on.We also focus on cultivating the application-oriented talents of Chinese language and literature who can engage in Chinese teaching in schools at home and abroad, and the works related to the communication of language and culture in enterprises and institutions.
III. Major characteristics
This major is a new interdisciplinary program that cultivates talents who master Chinese language and culture and solid teaching ability of Chinese as a foreign language. They will also have the experience of Chinese language teaching abroad, and possess certain cross-cultural communication skills.
IV. Graduation Requirements
Our students have been taught to master the basic knowledge of Chinese language, history and culture. Through the training of humanities and social sciences, they are able to use the knowledge that they have learned to do language work, Chinese International Education and cultural exchange practices across the globe.

3.Department of Japanese

Our aim is to cultivate practical Japanese professionals who can engage in international business and Japanese-Chinese translation with international perspective, solid Japanese foundation, business knowledge and skills as well as the abilities of international business communication and translation.
III. Our characteristics
Based on "Japanese professional foundation + characteristic direction" to build the students' knowledge structure, "double-cross" (cross-border and cross-university enterprise) joint training as the main way to train the application-oriented Japanese professional talents with strong abilities of translation practice and cross-cultural communication. Our basic courses are mainly composed of language, literature and culture, focusing on the cultivation of students' basic language skills and cross-cultural awareness, especially the Japanese basic language knowledge and four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. As to the characteristic orientation part, we should strengthen the training of business knowledge and translation skills of students. With the join training between universities and enterprises, our students can work seamlessly together with the requirements of employers; By increasing the weight of practice credits and strengthening the teaching concept of "learning by doing", students' comprehensive application ability of Japanese can be improved.

4.The 1st Department of College English
The 1st Department of College English has a faculty of 32 members: 3 professors, 6 associate professors, 20 lecturers and 3 teaching assistants. It is responsible for the teaching of College English and quality development courses for non-English majors in GUET. Its present courses are College English I, College English II, College English III, College English IV, Cross-cultural Communication, Practical Translation and Writing, etc. .
Under the guideline of student-centered and OBE teaching, its teachers are intensely engaged in exploring new ways in teaching to build quality classes. In the aspects of teaching reform and scientific research activities , they have undertaken or participated in a number of provincial or university-level educational reform projects. When it comes to extra curriculum activities, teachers from the 1stDepartment of College English organize and instruct students in various English competitions, such as the FLTRP Writing Competition, Reading Competition and Translation Competition, National English Competition for College Students, devoting a lot to fostering a good ambience of learning English on campus.
5. The 2nd Department of College English
The 2nd Department of College English has a faculty of 30 members, including 1 professor, 14 associate professors, 13 lecturers and 2 teaching assistants. It is mainly responsible for the teaching of College English and quality development courses for freshman and sophomore. At present, the department offers the following courses: College English 1-4, Cross-cultural Communication, Practical Translation and Writing and some skills training courses for Cet-4 and Cet-6.
Teachers in our department are engaged in scientific research actively and and strive to improve their professional level. They work as the leader or participants in a number of provincial or university-level educational reform projects. Besides they have compiled a variety of auxiliary teaching materials, teaching reference materials and series of books for English teaching. Moreover, they achieved a lot in the teaching competitions, winning national and provincial prizes in software competitions and micro-class competitions.
Teachers in our department devote to carrying out various activities for the second classroom, organizing and guiding students to take part in multilevel competitions, such as the FLTRP Writing Competition, Reading Competition and Translation Competition, National English Competition for College Students. As a result, many students win great awards in the competitions.
